60's Retrofit
To fit a modern full-size kitchen into one built in the 1960’s requires a lot of planning and foresight. Despite a poorly built house extension and awkward layout, a detailed design phase of this project delivered a fully functional flow that fits clients’ needs and looks stunning.
The complicated configuration of the kitchen required relocating the load-bearing walls in order to open up the space. With the additional space a centrally located island was added. On the island a gas cooktop was installed with a custom vent hood that matches the cabinetry.
The farmhouse sink is positioned under a new set of energy-efficient windows overlooking the back yard. Custom mosaic Italian tiles create a colorful backsplash that highlights the room’s temperament. The newly installed hardwood oak flooring matches the remainder of the house.
The limits were pushed to achieve the ultimate goal of turning this space into a colorful and functional kitchen.
