Although this bathroom was large in terms of square footage, the bathroom was poorly configured and did not utilize the space well or give the impression of the bathroom’s true size. The client requested a warm spa feel so Marvelous Home Makeovers selected materials that would create the feel of a luxurious spa environment. Everything in the bathroom was ripped out and started from scratch reconfiguring the space.

The shower was small, dark and tucked into a corner. By moving a vanity and half wall, the shower was enlarged to nearly two times its original size. Handheld and rain shower heads were installed and managed using a diverter and temperature control. Plumbing pipes had to be changed in order to accommodate the increased water flow and pressure necessary for the 2 showerheads. Before the vanities were separate, this added to the disjointed feel of the bathroom. Custom cherry cabinets were used for the vanities with a tower of cabinets creating a slight separation of the vanities and providing more storage.

Various architectural elements were added to enhance the space and spa feel. Columns and arches were built over the tub and shower that visually unify the bathing areas from the rest of the bathroom without closing them off and interrupting the flow of the room. A recessed vault area with an arch mimicking the large arch over the bathtub was built next to the tub. Floating glass shelves were installed in the vault which allowed for storage of small bath essentials so they would not clutter the tub area.
